Nominations and entries for the Nation Book Award must be submitted by PUBLISHERS only.

One Winner in each genre receives $10,000 for the best book chosen in Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, and Young People's Literature. Sixteen short-list prizes of $1,000 each will be awarded to the Finalists. Full-length books of fiction and general nonfiction are eligible. Collections of short stories and collections of essays by one author are eligible. Collected and selected poems by one author are eligible. All books must be published in the United States.

Authors must be U.S. citizens. Books scheduled for publication between December 1, 2007 and November 30, 2008 are eligible. No entry will be ineligible because its author has previously won the National Book Award, or any other award. Self-published books and e-books are eligible, provided that the author/publisher also publishes titles by other authors. Entry forms must be postmarked no later than June 16, 2008. Judges must receive books, bound galleys, or bound manuscripts no later than August 15, 2008.

Each author must be made aware of and consent to the entry of his/her book for the National Book Awards.

Writers Digest is pleased to announce the only Writer's Digest competition exclusively for poets! Regardless of style—rhyming, free verse, haiku and more—if your poems are 32 lines or fewer, WD wants them all.

First Place: $500

Entry fee: $10 for first poem, $5 for each additional poem. You may enter as many poems as you wish, but all poems must be entered at the same time.

$500 and 50 copies of the winning chapbook will be awarded for the finest collection of poetry received. Everyone is allowed to submit regardless of previous publication history. Every entrant will receive the equivalent cost of the entry fee in Pavement Saw Press titles.

The chapbooks are published in an edition of 400 copies. While chapbooks rarely receive exposure, ours have been reviewed in Poets and Writers, Publishers Weekly, The Georgia Review, Small Press Review and many others. Our previous winners have had subsequent full length books appear from a bevy of publishers including Curbstone Press, Cleveland State University Press, Bear Star Press, Blazevox Books, University of Georgia, and Hanging Loose Press.

Submit up to 32 pages of poetry. Include a signed cover letter with your name, address, phone number, e-mail, publication credits, a brief biography and the title of the chapbook. Include a cover page with your contact information and the chapbook title. Include a second page with the chapbook title only. Do not include your name on any pages inside the manuscript except for the first title page. No need for a contents page. All chapbooks are selected anonymously. Entry fee: $15.

Make all checks payable to: Pavement Saw Press. Every entrant will receive at least twelve dollars in books which Editors will pay to mail. Do not include an SASE. All manuscripts will be recycled.

Open City Magazine is published by Open City, Inc., a nonprofit corporation based in New York City. The editors, Thomas Beller and Joanna Yas, strive to keep the literary journal vital for each new generation by publishing a dynamic array of poetry and prose with a daring, youthful, spirit.

The RRofihe Contest rewards an unpublished short story of up to 5,000 words.

Submissions are accepted December 1 through February 29. Winners receive $500 and publication in CutBank 69. All submissions will be considered for publication in CutBank.

A $13 contest entry fee includes a one-year subscription to CutBank. The entry fee covers the reading of a single submission in a single genre. Prose writers, please send only a single work of no greater than 40 printed pages. Poets may submit up to five poems. Submissions that exceed these guidelines will be returned unread, along with payment. Please submit only once within in a genre, although writers are permitted to submit in multiple genres.

Submissions postmarked earlier than December 1, 2008 or later than February 28, 2009 will be returned unread (along with payment).

Please include a short cover letter that mentions your address, phone number, and email address, as well as the title of your work. Please include the author's name on the manuscript—names will be removed from the pool of submissions that goes before our contest judges.

Founded in 1990, The Go On Girls are a spirited group of sisters who love a good read. Currently boasts 33 chapters in 11 states with more than 350 members. Their mission is to encourage the literary pursuits of people of African descent. In this vain, since 1993, they have bestowed the coveted “Author of the Year” award and “New Author of the Year” award on such talents as Octavia Butler, Gloria Naylor, Valerie Wilson Wesley and Connie Briscoe, just to name a few.

In the year 2009, Go On Girl will host their annual awards weekend in Houston, Texas. Will you be honored there among our literary giants? Read on for details on how to apply for the prestigious “Unpublished Writer” Award.

This annual writing contest awards one first prize of $300, one second place prize of $150, and a third place prize of $50 per winning entry in each of the six categories; fiction, nonfiction, juvenile, poetry, student writer and screenwriting. Student writers are awarded $50 for first place in three grade divisions, $20 for second place, and $10 for third place. The Liam Callen Memorial Award of $500 goes to the best overall contest entry in all divisions.

Category:
Adult Non-Fiction - maximum 2500 words. One complete article for an adult market.

Each entry must be accompanied by a 3 x 5 card with author's name, address, phone, and title of entry and category. Place the card in a plain white envelope, seal it, and on the outside of the envelope write the title of your entry and its category. For poetry entries, each poem must be accompanied by a 3 x 5 card in an envelope. Multiple entries can be mailed in one envelope with one registration form.

Submit THREE (3) copies of each entry. Do not send originals.
