Nominations and entries for the Nation Book Award must be submitted by PUBLISHERS only.

One Winner in each genre receives $10,000 for the best book chosen in Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, and Young People's Literature. Sixteen short-list prizes of $1,000 each will be awarded to the Finalists. Full-length books of fiction and general nonfiction are eligible. Collections of short stories and collections of essays by one author are eligible. Collected and selected poems by one author are eligible. All books must be published in the United States.

Authors must be U.S. citizens. Books scheduled for publication between December 1, 2007 and November 30, 2008 are eligible. No entry will be ineligible because its author has previously won the National Book Award, or any other award. Self-published books and e-books are eligible, provided that the author/publisher also publishes titles by other authors. Entry forms must be postmarked no later than June 16, 2008. Judges must receive books, bound galleys, or bound manuscripts no later than August 15, 2008.

Each author must be made aware of and consent to the entry of his/her book for the National Book Awards.

The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is a professional honorary society of women educators. The Society promotes professional and personal growth of its members and excellence in education. Since 1931, the California Book Awards have honored the exceptional literary merit of California writers and publishers. Each year a select jury considers hundreds of books in search of the very best in literary achievement. Eligible books must be written while the author is a resident of California, and they must be published during the year under consideration. Awards are presented in the categories of Fiction, Nonfiction, First Work of Fiction, Poetry, Californiana, Notable Contribution to Publishing, Juvenile Literature and Young Adult Literature.

Authors and Publishers are invited to submit an entry or entries to the Annual California Book Awards of The Commonwealth Club. Awards are presented to those books with exceptional literary merit.

Each entry must bear a 2008 publication date and be made on an official form, or a facsimile thereof, and must be postmarked not later than midnight December 19, 2008. Earlier entries are appreciated.

Each submission must have a completed entry form (paper or digital on-line form) and must be postmarked no later than December 19th, 2008. Entries are restricted to books bearing a 2008 original publication date.

The author must have been a legal resident of California at the time the manuscript was accepted for publication. To be eligible for an award in Notable Contribution to Publishing, the author must be a California resident (as stipulated above) or the publisher can be recognized the applicant, provided the publisher is California-based.

There is no entry fee. Either author or publisher may submit entries. At least six (6) review copies of each work must be sent to our San Francisco office. Your submission is considered complete once both the review copies and an entry form are received.

Awards will consist of three gold and up to eight silver medals:
One Gold Medal in Fiction;
One Gold Medal in Nonfiction;
One Gold Medal in Poetry;
One Silver Medal for an author’s published First Work of Fiction;
One Silver Medal for Juvenile Literature, up to age 10;
One Silver Medal for Young Adult Literature, ages 11-16;
One Silver Medal for Californiana (fiction or nonfiction relating to California);
One Silver Medal for Notable Contribution to Publishing (outstanding book production);
Two Silver Medals for outstanding entries, regardless of classification.

The Book Awards jury will also consider a Work in Translation in any category. To be eligible, the translation must bear a 2008 original publication date in accordance with general submission guidelines, and the translator must have been legal resident in California at the time the work was accepted for publication.

Two prizes of $1,000 each are given annually for debut books of fiction by a gay writer and by a lesbian writer published in the current year. Submit four copies of a first novel or a short story collection (or bound galleys) with a $20 entry fee by December 1.

A book can be nominated only by its author or by its publisher. Each nomination includes a completed nomination form, an administrative fee of $20, and four (4) copies of the book. Only one nomination form is required per book; however, additional fees and books are required if a book is nominated in two categories. Example: A debut novel may be entered in both the Fiction and Debut Fiction categories. One (1) nomination form, two fees ($40) and eight (8) copies of the book will be necessary to be judged in both categories.

The book must be published and distributed (i.e. available in bookstores) in the United States during 2008.

The Ohioana Award for Children's Literature was established in 1990 and is made possible by a bequest from Alice Louise Ridenour Wood. The award of $1,000 is given yearly to an Ohio author of children's literature for a body of work or for a lifetime of contributions to children's literature.

The recipient must have been born in Ohio or lived in Ohio for a minimum of five years. The recipient must have established a distinguished publishing record of books for children and young people. Body of work has made, and continues to make, a significant contribution to the literature for young people. Through the recipient's work as a writer, teacher, administrator, and in community service, interest in children's literature has been encouraged and children have become involved with reading.

It is desirable for the recipient to be present at Ohioana Day to receive to award.
