The EV nature writing contest is held to support the cause of expression on the subject of nature and deep ecology. Any outstanding proceeds will support the EV project. Must submit your project and pay entry fee ONLINE ONLY.

First prize: $500.
Second and third prizes: $100 each.
Two honorable mentions.

This contest is open to any writer in English producing an original short piece of fiction, creative non-fiction, poetic prose, or poetry on a theme of nature, deep ecology, spiritual ecology, or any work that has some element of nature woven into it.

Submissions can be published or unpublished material, length to range between 500 and 2500 words per entry. One title per entry, you can enter as many times as you like, new entry fee to accompany each entry.

Winners will retain all rights, and will be invited to post their entries on the Earth Vision website.

The Agricultural History Society established the Theodore Saloutos Memorial Award in 1982 in memory of the distinguished historian and past president of the Agricultural History Society. At its annual meeting, the Society presents a cash prize and a certificate to the author of a book on any aspect (broadly interpreted) of agricultural history in the United States, judged best by the award committee. The book must be based on substantial primary research and should represent a major new scholarly interpretation or reinterpretation of agricultural history scholarship. A book may be nominated by its author, the publisher, a member of the award committee, or a member of the Society. Submit nominations to the editor of Agricultural History by December 31, 2008. Publishers should send four copies of the book to the Agricultural History journal office for award consideration.

Former students established the Vernon Carstensen Award in 1980 to recognize his services to the field of agricultural history. Carstensen served as editor of Agricultural History from 1953 to 1957 and was president of the Agricultural History Society from 1957 to 1958.

The Carstensen Award is given for the best article published in Agricultural History during the calendar year that is judged best by the award committee. The award includes a cash prize and certificate presented to the author at the Society's annual meeting.

The Agricultural History Society remembers editor and scholar Everett E. Edwards by awarding a prize in his name to the graduate student who submits the best manuscript on any aspect of agricultural and rural studies during the calendar year. The award includes a cash prize and certificate presented to the author at the Society's annual meeting. Graduate students (defined as one who has not completed a terminal degree at the time of submission) can submit three copies of the manuscript to the editor of Agricultural History by December 31, 2008 for next year’s award.
