The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is a professional honorary society of women educators. The Society promotes professional and personal growth of its members and excellence in education. Established in 1929, Delta Kappa Gamma has attained major objectives in improving opportunities for qualified women employed at every level of education as well as in advancing the status of women educators. The Society has members belonging to chapters located all over the world including: Canada, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Guatemala, Iceland, Mexico, Norway, Puerto Rico, Sweden, The Netherlands, and the United States of America. The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International presents an Educator's Award to the author(s) of a book which may influence future directions of education. The author(s) must be a woman from a country in which the Society is established. To be considered for the award, the book must be published or translated into English within a prescribed one-year period. The Committee on Honors and Awards of the Modern Language Association invites authors to compete for the twenty-eighth annual Kenneth W. Mildenberger Prize, to be presented for an outstanding scholarly book in the fields of language, culture, literacy, or literature with strong application to the teaching of languages other than English. The prize will be awarded for a book published in 2007. Go!, an online magazine for teens published by Iowa State University’s Center for Transportation Research and Education (CTRE), is sponsoring a writing contest that is open to all writers ages 16 and up. All submissions should be focused on some aspect of transportation and be appropriate for teens and young adults. Looking for Non-fiction articles up to 2,000 words. Well-researched articles are preferred over personal essays or creative non-fiction. Prize: $1000 Student Prize (for student writers age 16 and up): $500 gift card to Iowa University's bookstore All submissions must be previously unpublished. Winners announced April 1. | The Jack Kavanagh Memorial Youth Baseball Research Award | Updated September 03rd, 2008 |

The Jack Kavanagh Memorial Youth Baseball Research Award was established in 1999 by the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) in recognition of Kavanagh’s writing and research achievements and his contributions to SABR. The Award was presented for the first time at the SABR National Convention in West Palm Beach, Florida in June, 2000. The Kavanagh Award may be presented each year for either a research presentation given at the SABR National Convention (papers must accompany an oral presentation), or for a research paper that is submitted to the awards committee between the end of one SABR Convention and no later that June 1 of the following year by a researcher in grades 6-8 (middle school category), grades 9-12 (high school category), or undergraduates 22 and under (College Category). Proof of age (driver’s license, birth certificate, etc.) must accompany all submissions. The entrant must not have reached their 22nd birthday by July 1 in the year the award is presented in order to compete. The winner will receive a plaque honoring their achievement and the following, according to his/her category: College ($200 prize and 1 year membership) High School ($200 prize and 1 year membership) Middle School ($100 prize and 2 year membership) Additionally, the winning entry shall be published on the SABR Website and may be published in either The National Pastime or the Baseball Research Journal. All Finalists (3) shall receive one-year SABR memberships. Papers submitted for the college and high school categories should be of magazine article length (approximately 3,500 words or less). Papers submitted for the middle school category should be 1,000 words or less. Sources may be cited in endnote or bibliographic form. Any topic involving baseball research is appropriate. This includes but is not limited to biographic, oral history and statistical analysis. Researchers are expected to do their own work, however they may, and are encouraged to enlist the help of a mentor, perhaps a SABR member of member committee or a parent or other adult. The Agricultural History Society remembers editor and scholar Everett E. Edwards by awarding a prize in his name to the graduate student who submits the best manuscript on any aspect of agricultural and rural studies during the calendar year. The award includes a cash prize and certificate presented to the author at the Society's annual meeting.
