![]() Awarding $1,000 each in fiction and poetry and publication in the print issue of Mississippi Review Annual contest awards prizes of $1,000 in fiction and in poetry. Winners and finalists will make up next winter's print issue of the national literary magazine Mississippi Review. Contest is open to all writers in English except current or former students or employees of The University of Southern Mississippi. Fiction entries should be 1000-5000 words. There is no limit on the number of entries you may submit. Entry fee is $15 per entry, payable to the Mississippi Review. Each entrant will receive a copy of the prize issue. No manuscripts will be returned. Previously published work is ineligible. Contest opens April 1, 2010. Deadline is October 1, 2010. Winners will be announced in late January and publication is scheduled for May next year. | Ledge Poetry Chapbook Award | Updated May 24th, 2010 |
![]() 2010 Poetry Chapbook Competition Guidelines: PRIZE: Winning poet will receive a $1,000 cash award and 25 copies of the published chapbook. SUBMIT: 16-28 pages of original poetry with title page, biographical note and acknowledgements, if any. Please include your name, mailing address, email address, and phone number (optional). Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but Editors ask that you notify them if your manuscript is accepted elsewhere. Poets may enter more than one manuscript. ENTRY FEE: $18. All entrants will receive a copy of the winning chapbook upon its publication in the fall of 2011. NO RESTRICTIONS on form or content. The Ledge Press is open to all styles and forms of poetry. ![]() Ledge Fiction Awards Competition Guidelines: PRIZES: First prize: $1,000 and publication in The Ledge Magazine. Second prize: $250 and publication in The Ledge Magazine. Third prize: $100 and publication in The Ledge Magazine. ENTRY FEE: $10 for the first story; $6 for each additional story. $20 subscription (two issues) to The Ledge gains free entry for the first story. ![]() SCBWI presents plaques each year to honor members' outstanding original magazine work published during that year. The works chosen are those that exhibit excellence in writing and illustration, and genuinely appeal to the interests and concerns of young people. Honor Certificates in each category are also awarded. Entrants must be members of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. Every magazine work for young people by an SCBWI member -– writer, artist, or photographer -– is eligible during the year of original publication. In the case of co-authored work, both authors must be SCBWI members. Members must submit their own work. Required are four copies of each of the following: - The work in published form -- illustrators must send color photocopies or tearsheets. - Proof of publication showing the name of the magazine and date of issue (contents page or verification from editor). - Cover sheets must contain: the member's name as listed by the SCBWI, mailing address and phone number, title of entry, category (fiction, nonfiction, illustration or poetry), name of publication, and date of issue. - When submitting both article text and illustrations for consideration, send eight copies: four that stipulate author entry (fiction, nonfiction, or poetry) and four that stipulate illustrator entry. Entries must be submitted ON or BEFORE December 15th of the year of publication (entry year). Entries received after December 15th are not eligible. | Vernon Carstensen Memorial Award | Updated May 24th, 2010 |
![]() Former students established the Vernon Carstensen Award in 1980 to recognize his services to the field of agricultural history. Carstensen served as editor of Agricultural History from 1953 to 1957 and was president of the Agricultural History Society from 1957 to 1958. The Carstensen Award is given for the best article published in Agricultural History during the calendar year that is judged best by the award committee. Rasmussen Award to the author of the best article on agricultural history published by a journal other than Agricultural History during the calendar year. The award includes a cash prize and certificates for the author and publisher, which are presented at the Society's annual meeting. | Moment-Karma Short Story Contest | Updated May 24th, 2010 |
![]() Stories of a maximum of 7,000 words must be received in the offices of Moment Magazine by close of business, December 31, 2010. Participants shall submit a $15 reader fee , payable to Moment Magazine, with each story submitted for consideration in the Moment-Karma Short Fiction Contest. If an entry is submitted without the fee, it will not be considered. The $15 fee is nonrefundable. Submission of this fee does not give the participant any legal rights. If the participant encloses a self-addressed, stamped envelope, it will be used to notify the particpant directly of the contest results. In lieu of a cover letter, a candidate should submit the following information with each entry: full name of author; address, day, evening and cell phone numbers; and a three-line biography. Three prizes will be awarded: a first prize of $1,000; a second prize of $500; and a third prize of $250. At the discretion of Moment Magazine, persons selected for these prizes may be invited to Washington, DC, New York City or another U.S. city to attend an awards ceremony. Moment Magazine shall reimburse prize winners attending the ceremony for roundtrip air or train fare and hotel accomodations for one night, if travel and overnight accomodations are judged necessary. All arrangements for travel and accomodations will be made by Moment Magzine. A well-known author will determine the winners from finalists. Moment Magazine shall be free to publish any story selected for a prize but shall be under no obligation to do so. Any story selected for publication shall be subject to editing by the editors of Moment Magazine. Submission of a story to Moment Magazine for consideration in the Short Fiction Contest shall constitute authorization by the author for Moment Magazine to publish the story at its discreation and shall give Moment Magazine all copyrights and other rights necessary to reproduce the story in print, on its web site or in any other format or location. send: Complete MS looking for: Short Story specifically: Literary |
