The Arts Retreat of the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center (NYMRCC) focuses on providing dedicated emerging artists time for creative development and exploration. The program provides a unique taste of life in rural Minnesota while allowing the artists two to four weeks in which to immerse themselves in their artwork.

Open to: Playwrights, Composers, Librettists, Lyricists, Dancers, Performers Visual Artists, (emerging or established).
Description: One artists at a time housed for 2-6 weeks in small farming community in North Central Minnesota; Housing is a small 1-bedroom home; artist provides own meals and transportation. The program provides a unique taste of life in
rural Minnesota while allowing the artists time in which to immerse themselves in their artwork.

Community classes or performances are a potential income source during your retreat.

Deadline is twice per year, April 1 and October 1.

Please attach the following:
- 1 page describing your emerging artist status, and your need for a retreat
- 1 page briefly outlining 3 alternative ideas for your community outreach (at least 2 should involve schools)
- Up to 2 pages of resume'
- Not more than 2 pages of additional supporting material (ie bio, clippings, reviews, etc)
- 1 page describing your work samples (date, size, medium, etc)
- Work samples: writers - 12 pages
- 2 professional letters of recommendation (may be sent separately)
- Please include 5 copies of all paper application materials
- An SASE for return of materials, if desired

The Jury process takes two full months and notice of the results is sent by mail.

You will receive a complete line-edit - grammar, punctuation, etc. Plus a two to three page single spaced overview of your work with a view to making it ready for publication. You can also schedule telephone consultations about your manuscript, your marketing plan, issues with agents and editors, etc.

Joyce's rate is $2 per double spaced page, plus SASE for manuscript return. Joyce works in hard copy only. Writers get a line edit and an overview, usually 2-4 single spaced pages long, depending on the issues. **Joyce has a $25 MINIMUM, which means your projects must be 13 pages or more.**

Fellowships of $2,500 and $5,000 each are given biennially to Florida poets and fiction writers. Applicants must be legal residents of Florida at the time of application and during the fellowship period. Graduate and undergraduate students are not eligible. Submit three to five poems, up to 30 pages of a novel, or 20 pages of a short story by June 1. There is no entry fee. Developed to broaden Nickelodeon's outreach efforts, the Nickelodeon Writing Fellowship is designed to attract, develop and staff writers with diverse backgrounds and experiences on Nickelodeon Network productions.

Operating in a three-phased structure, the Fellowship provides a salaried position for up to one year and offers hands-on experience writing spec scripts and pitching story ideas in both live action and animation television.

Appropriate spec scripts must be:
~ Comedic
~ Live Action or Animation
~ Based on a half-hour television series
~ Currently being produced for primetime network or cable
~ Typed in standard script format
~ In black ink
~ In 12pt courier style font
~ On 8-1/2 x 11, 3-hole punched white paper
~ With only two brass fasteners (top & bottom)

All spec scripts must include a cover page listing the show name and show title, along with your name, address, and telephone number (please do not put your name on every page).

Established in 2005, the Sundance/Sloan Commissioning Grant is an annual cash award for a science or technology related project that is at an early stage such as full treatment or early screenplay draft. This grant will also include a small stipend for a science advisor to provide support through consultation and feedback, as well as the possibility of inclusion in a Screenwriters Lab.

The Grant will include the following:
A cash grant of up to $20,000 to provide support during the writing period.
A stipend of up to $5000 for a science advisor.
Creative support during the writing process from a select group of advisors.
The possibility of a fellowship to a Screenwriters Lab.
Strategic and practical support from the Feature Film Program staff.

ELIGIBILITY
Projects must have science or technology as a major theme or scientists as major characters. We cannot consider science fiction or projects that stray too far from a base scientific reality.
Screenwriters with any level of experience, including numerous produced works, may apply.
Projects must be narrative features and not documentary in nature.
Projects must be English language. However, screenwriter does not need to reside in the U.S.
Projects currently in development within the studio system are not eligible.
Projects based on source material must have proper permissions and rights to use that material.


Step 1: Fill out the Online Application.

Description of the project.
Biographies of the screenwriter, director, and producers (if attached).
A letter of recommendation (name of the person providing you with a letter is required in the application).

Mail a printed a copy of your completed application by Monday, September 8, 2009. There will be a link to view and print your completed application in PDF after you submit it electronically.
Your letter of recommendation must be included with your application.

Please do not submit any additional material including prior films, screenplays, treatments, or source material.

We may later request supporting materials such as an early screenplay draft or a treatment (8-12 pages).

The Jonathan Larson Grants, established thirteen years ago with the resources of the Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation and gifts from the Larson Family to honor the memory of Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize recipient Jonathan Larson, recognize and support emerging composers, lyricists and book writers. The grants will be celebrated at a reception featuring performances of the winning artists' work in the Spring.

Artists seeking a Jonathan Larson Grant must submit a written application. The completed application must be returned by mail, along with the required attachments, in order for the committee to evaluate the artist's work.

The application deadline for the 2010 grants is Saturday, August 29th, 2009.
To be considered for this award, applications must be postmarked no later than August 29th.

General Criteria: The Jonathan Larson Grants are intended to honor and recognize emerging musical theatre artists. Composers and lyricists, and bookwriters who work in musical theatre are the focus of the grants.
Grant awards are based on merit. In addition, the Grants are intended for those artists with a demonstrated commitment and dedication to a career in musical theatre. Further, the grants are not intended to be scholarships, and artists applying for grants should be working professionally in the field.

Applications are accepted in the following areas:
Individuals may apply as lyricists, composers, composer/lyricists, or composer/lyricist/bookwriters. Individual bookwriter applications are not accepted.

Collaborative teams may apply together as composer and lyricist or composer, lyricist, and bookwriter. Collaborators who work together regularly are strongly encouraged to apply as a team.

United States citizenship is not a requirement to receive the grant, but you must be eligible to work in the U.S. and reside/work here on at least a part-time basisand submitted work should be predominately in English.
Individual and Team Applicants may not apply more than twice in any three year period. For instance, if you applied in 2009, and apply again in 2010, you would not be eligible to apply for a third time until 2012.
Prior Jonathan Larson Grant Recipients are not eligible

Applicants must submit three (3) identical copies of the following to be considered for the Jonathan Larson Grants:

Please do not include cover letters, headshots, video tapes, DVDs, production photos, production programs, playbills, design renderings, brochures, reviews, symphonic scores, or sheet music.

The Jonathan Larson Grants are intended to honor and recognize emerging musical theatre writers. We are aware that artists work in multiple disciplines; and while it is not necessary that you only work in musical theatre, selections of representative work submitted for the grant must be for musical theatre.
