| Astraea Foundation Lesbian Writers Fund | Updated October 28th, 2008 |
Launched in 1991, the Lesbian Writer's Fund has awarded nearly a half-million dollars to emerging lesbian poets and fiction writers across the U.S. Too often, lesbian writing is marginalized by literary venues and funding sources, resulting in exceptionally talented artists unable to receive the nurturing and support so vital to their craft. The Lesbian Writers Fund is attempting to remedy this - and with good results. Two $10,000 grants are given annually to emerging lesbian poets and fiction writers. A runner-up in each category will receive a grant of $1,500. Applicants must have published work at least once in a newspaper, magazine, literary journal, or anthology but must not have published more than one book in any genre. Submit 10 to 15 pages of poetry or up to 20 pages of fiction with lesbian content and a one-paragraph biography with a $5 entry fee by June 30. send: see details looking for: Short Story |

| Annual Dream Grant | Updated July 10th, 2008 |
Do you have a dream that involves writing? Something you really want to write about, a place you really want to go to research an article, or perhaps you just wish you had a little bit more time off of work so you could write that best selling novel that will change the world? If you have a dream…we have your grant! Announcing The Hobson Foundation's Annual Dream Grant! Our Dream Grant, inspired by the MacArthur Fellows Program, is not a reward for past accomplishment, but rather an investment in potential; it is a “no strings attached" award in support of writers’ dreams. We want to know your dreams and how making them come true can help our world. Each Dream Grant comes with a stipend of up to $1,000.00 paid directly to the recipient. (Note that as our Foundation grows and we have more money in our capital, we intend to steadily increase the amount of our grant awards.) A cover letter is required (no more than 3 pages) which includes the project title, summary, detailed description, applicable dates, and what you have done towards your dream thus far as well as how your writing project can help others/the world. Please also include how the grant can help you towards accomplishing your writing dream. If you have writing accomplishments, do tell us about them, but please note that, for the most part, this grant is not dependant on previous works. All grant entrants must be 18 years of age or older. As we are not under non-profit status yet, the dream grant is open to world-wide writers. By applying for this grant, you give the Hobson Foundation full right to list your name, email address, and portions of your application letter on our website for future applicants to read. (We will remove all other contact information as a courtesy). Grants will be announced on our website and monies will be sent out by December 31, 2007. send: see details |
