![]() Established in 2005, the Sundance/Sloan Commissioning Grant is an annual cash award for a science or technology related project that is at an early stage such as full treatment or early screenplay draft. This grant will also include a small stipend for a science advisor to provide support through consultation and feedback, as well as the possibility of inclusion in a Screenwriters Lab. The Grant will include the following: A cash grant of up to $20,000 to provide support during the writing period. A stipend of up to $5000 for a science advisor. Creative support during the writing process from a select group of advisors. The possibility of a fellowship to a Screenwriters Lab. Strategic and practical support from the Feature Film Program staff. ELIGIBILITY Projects must have science or technology as a major theme or scientists as major characters. We cannot consider science fiction or projects that stray too far from a base scientific reality. Screenwriters with any level of experience, including numerous produced works, may apply. Projects must be narrative features and not documentary in nature. Projects must be English language. However, screenwriter does not need to reside in the U.S. Projects currently in development within the studio system are not eligible. Projects based on source material must have proper permissions and rights to use that material. Step 1: Fill out the Online Application. The application will require: (Please have all required information prepared, as you will not be able to save the application and return to it at a later time.) Description of the project. Biographies of the screenwriter, director, and producers (if attached). A letter of recommendation (name of the person providing you with a letter is required in the application). Application fee of $35 (credit card only). Step 2: Mail in your completed application by the postmark deadline of September 8, 2009. Mail a printed a copy of your completed application by Monday, September 8, 2009. There will be a link to view and print your completed application in PDF after you submit it electronically. ![]() The Jonathan Larson Grants, established thirteen years ago with the resources of the Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation and gifts from the Larson Family to honor the memory of Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize recipient Jonathan Larson, recognize and support emerging composers, lyricists and book writers. The grants will be celebrated at a reception featuring performances of the winning artists' work in the Spring. Artists seeking a Jonathan Larson Grant must submit a written application. The completed application must be returned by mail, along with the required attachments, in order for the committee to evaluate the artist's work. The application deadline for the 2010 grants is Saturday, August 29th, 2009. To be considered for this award, applications must be postmarked no later than August 29th. General Criteria: The Jonathan Larson Grants are intended to honor and recognize emerging musical theatre artists. Composers and lyricists, and bookwriters who work in musical theatre are the focus of the grants. Grant awards are based on merit. In addition, the Grants are intended for those artists with a demonstrated commitment and dedication to a career in musical theatre. Further, the grants are not intended to be scholarships, and artists applying for grants should be working professionally in the field. Applications are accepted in the following areas: Individuals may apply as lyricists, composers, composer/lyricists, or composer/lyricist/bookwriters. Individual bookwriter applications are not accepted. Collaborative teams may apply together as composer and lyricist or composer, lyricist, and bookwriter. Collaborators who work together regularly are strongly encouraged to apply as a team. United States citizenship is not a requirement to receive the grant, but you must be eligible to work in the U.S. and reside/work here on at least a part-time basisand submitted work should be predominately in English. Individual and Team Applicants may not apply more than twice in any three year period. For instance, if you applied in 2009, and apply again in 2010, you would not be eligible to apply for a third time until 2012. Prior Jonathan Larson Grant Recipients are not eligible Applicants must submit three (3) identical copies of the following to be considered for the Jonathan Larson Grants: APPLICATION PACKET Completed Application Form, including: Personal Statement - on the form provided, describe your achievements and goals for your career as a creative artist or collaborative team (one per application). Creative Curriculum Vitae - productions/workshops/readings, educational history, and including list of awards (one for each applicant or each member of a team). SAMPLES OF WORK PACKET Representative samples of work (be sure to consult instructions for formatting this packet in the guidelines) Additionally, though not required, applicants may provide one (1) copy of the following: Letters of support/recommendation from theatre artists or educators (No more than two letters per application, please). Please note: Only the materials listed above will be provided to the adjudicators for review. Anything else included in your application will not be seen by the reviewing committee. Please do not include cover letters, headshots, video tapes, DVDs, production photos, production programs, playbills, design renderings, brochures, reviews, symphonic scores, or sheet music. We are aware that artists work in multiple disciplines; and while it is not necessary that you only work in musical theatre, selections of representative work submitted for the grant must be for musical theatre. As part of its ongoing commitment to create additional access for writers of diverse backgrounds, CBS' Diversity Institute has launched a different kind of writers program, which highlights one of those paths. The focus of this six month program is on opening doors: providing opportunities to build relationships with network executives and show runners; to support new and emerging writers in their efforts to improve their craft; and to develop the interpersonal skills necessary to break in and succeed. The CBS Writers Mentoring Program is not employment and there is no monetary compensation. It is, instead, a structured program of career development, support, and personal access to executives and decision-making processes, with the goal of preparing aspiring writers for later employment opportunities in television. Eligibility The primary focus of CBS' Diversity Writers Mentoring Program is to provide access and opportunities for talented and motivated diverse writers with a focus on writers of color. Aspiring diverse writers with a strong desire to write for CBS television series are encouraged to apply. You must be 21 or older to be eligible. Application Materials Each submission must be complete in order to be considered.
