Military History Quarterly covers world history from a military perspective. MHQ contains vivid narrative stories, rare photographs, maps, travel recommendations, and book reviews. It is the ideal companion periodical to Military History magazine.

All stories must be true—publishes no fiction. Although they are always looking for variety, some subjects—World War II, the American Civil War, and military biography, for instance—are the focus of so many proposals that they are forced to judge them by relatively rigid criteria. They are always glad to consider articles on these subjects. However, less common ones—medieval, Asian, or South American military history, for example—are more likely to attract their attention. The likelihood that articles can be effectively illustrated often determines the ultimate fate of manuscripts. Many otherwise excellent articles have been rejected due to a lack of suitable art or photographs. Regular departments—columns on strategy, tactics, and weaponry—average 1,500 words. While the information published is scholarly and substantive, they prefer writing that is light, anecdotal, and above all, engaging, rather than didactic.

The best guidelines for writing for the magazine are the magazine itself. If interested in submitting a query or writing for the magazine, pick up several issues from the past few months and read through them to gain a better sense of the type of writing they are looking for at Military History Quarterly.

Quarterly magazine covering the intersection between art and faith. Image speaks with equal force and relevance to the secular culture and to the church. By finding fresh ways for the imagination to embody religious truth and religious experience, Image challenges believers and nonbelievers alike.

Image does not have a formal set of guidelines. We do welcome unsolicited submissions, however, and consider all submissions carefully.

We ask those who wish to submit writing—whether fiction, essay, interview, memoir or poetry—to read the journal and get an idea for the type and range of material we publish. In general, we have a 6,000-word maximum.

We welcome queries from writers who want an initial yea or nay on essay topics, interviews with accomplished writers and artists, and other nonfiction pieces

Good Old Days is a monthly magazine looking for strong narratives showing life as it was in the first half of the 20th century. Their readership is comprised of nostalgia buffs, history enthusiasts, and the people who actually lived and grew up in this era.

These regular departments are in each issue: Good Old Days on Wheels (transportation: auto, plane, horse-drawn, train, bicycle, trolley, etc.), Good Old Days in the Kitchen (favorite foods, appliances, ways of cooking, recipes), Home Remedies (herbs and
poultices, hometown doctors, harrowing kitchen table operations).

Most of Good Old Days' writers are not professionals. They prefer the author's individual voice, warmth, humor, and honesty over technical ability.

Early American Life is a bimonthly magazine targeted to people who are interested in capturing the warmth and beauty of the 1600-1840 period and using it in their homes and lives today. They are interested in antiques, traditional crafts, architecture, restoration, and collecting.

Offers highly descriptive, entertaining, yet informational articles on social culture, decorative arts, antiques, or well-restored and appropriately furnished homes that reflect middle-class American life prior to 1850.

Social history (the story of the people, not epic heroes and battles), travel to historic sites, antiques and reproductions, restoration, architecture, and decorating. Try to entertain as well as inform. Always on the lookout for good pieces on any of these subjects. Would like to see more on how real people did something great to their homes.

Readers are eager for ideas on how to bring early America into their lives. Conceive a new approach to satisfy their related interests in arts, crafts, travel to historic sites, and especially in houses decorated in the Early American style. Write to entertain and inform at the same time. Magazine is visually oriented, so writers are asked to supply images or suggest sources for illustrations.
