Weight Watchers Magazine is a bimonthly publication targeted to women interested in weight loss and leading a healthy lifestyle, providing advice on nutrition and exercise, articles on beauty and fashion, cooking tips, and health-related news.

Articles must be friendly in tone and detail how information can be utilized in everyday life. Topics may include dieting and general nutrition, inspiration/motivation, fitness, and products that might be used by women with healthy, active lifestyles.

Well-developed, tightly written queries always a plus, as are trend pieces. Weight Watchers is always on the lookout for a fresh angle on an old topic. Sources must be reputable; prefer subjects to be medical professionals with university affiliations who are published in their field of expertise. Looking for fresh, innovative stories that yield worthwhile information for women interested in losing weight—the latest exercise alternatives, a suggestion of how they can reduce stress, nutritional information that may not be common knowledge, reassurance about their lifestyle or health concerns, etc. Familiarity with the Weight Watchers philosophy/program is a plus.

True West magazine, published 10 times/year, features articles and departments that tie the history of the American West (between 1800 and 1930) to the modern Western lifestyle through enticing narrative and intelligent analyses. True West publishes articles on Western travel, collectibles, artists, movies, apparel, firearms and Old West characters, and reviews Western-related movies and books (fiction, nonfiction and children's books).

Some True West features and most department articles that are not written in-house are assigned. Generally, the lead features in each issue relate to a specific topic, which is set by the magazine's editorial staff.

Writers are encouraged to keep their ears to the ground and inform True West about revelations concerning Old West icons and historic events and places. A freelancer is most likely to break in by submitting thoroughly researched, lively prose on relatively obscure topics or by being assigned to write for a department. First-person accounts rarely fill needs. Historical accuracy and strict adherence to the facts are essential. Much prefer material based on primary sources and should not be based mainly on secondary sources. Art is also a huge selling point.

Buys 30 features/year; 30 short mss/year.

Skylights is a bimonthly inflight magazine for Spirit Airlines. Known for its practical and friendly sensibility. Clean, stylish, and user-friendly. Not an old-school inflight magazine.

Submission topics may include humor, interviews or profiles, information on new products, travel tips, etc. No heavy topics or personal accounts.

Skylights does not want to bore readers with ponderous dissertations on weighty or esoteric topics, ho-hum something-for-everyone destination pieces, the stuffy de rigueur which-mutual-funds-to-watch business article. Instead, wants to give readers the quick and practical lowdown on where they're going, what's going on once they get there, where they can sleep, eat, play, buy, relax. Who and what they're talking about—names, faces, music, movies, books, gadgets, fashion—in chatty culture-current language. Reflects a youthful sassy edge that—while never speaking down to readers—amuses and delights the wide-ranging readership. Readers are both leisure and business travelers.

Buys 18 features/year; 36 columns/year. Query with published clips.
