TALES OF THE TALISMAN (formerly Hadrosaur Tales) is a literary journal published quarterly by Hadrosaur Productions and LBF Books. The format is an 86-page, perfect-bound, printed magazine.

Looking for Science Fiction, fantasy, and horror poems up to 50 lines.

The reading periods are January 1 - February 15 and again from July 1 - August 15. Please do not submit material outside these reading periods.

Speculative fiction set in the past, present, and future are welcome. Admittedly, science fiction, fantasy and horror are broad genres that overlap many other genres. Editors welcome cross-genre stories, but they must have some element of science fiction or fantasy. Magazine has published western/fantasy cross-genre stories and horror/science fiction cross genre-stories and more.

Do not send: Stories with graphic violence (good horror is about atmosphere and emotion, not cheap gross outs, and absolutely do not send us stories with violence to children). Please avoid clichéd or overdone ideas. That said, we really like stories that take the conventions of science fiction and fantasy and stand them on their head, exploring them seriously and intelligently from new perspectives. Do not send stories or poems with essentially no science fictional or fantasy elements.

As the premiere magazine produced by the interpretive profession, Legacy is looking for professional writing that provides more than information. Writers for Legacy should make every attempt to forge emotional and intellectual connections between the interests of their readers and the inherent meanings in the resources being described. In other words, Legacy articles should be interpretive, not just informative. Check your story before submittal to see if it:
• Relates to the theme of the issue
• Has a specific theme within the article (what is the main idea that you want to convey)
• Serves a purpose by provoking further thought or action
• Engages the reader by being relevant to their life experience
• Is appropriate for the audience (those who have interest in or visit interpretive sites)

Feature articles: Sites or individuals that interpret natural and cultural history, interpretive themes, biographies, trends in interpretation, and the history of the field. Should include a variety of quotes from different sources.

Commentary: Takes a firm stance on thought-provoking, timely, or contraversial subject matter relevant to the field of interpretation. Must address interpretive subject matter (religion, native cultures, etc.) rather than criticize a specific site.

Profile: Focuses on an individual important to the interpretive field using question-answer format preceded by a one paragraph introduction of the person.

Vistor's View: Describes a vist to a specific interpretive site.

Book Review: Offers a critical review of an interpretive publication. Include biographical information in the following order: Title. Author. Year of publication. Publisher: City, State. Binding, price, page count.

Talebones is a quarterly digest-sized perfect-bound magazine that publishes science fiction and dark fantasy. It is a 90-108 page, semi-pro magazine with a full color glossy cover. It is available by subscription, mail order companies, and specialty book stores.

We want entertaining, literate stories that straddle the edge of the dark, with three dimensional characters. We want dark fantasy, not horror...that is, there needs to be a supernatural element to your stories. We publish more straight science fiction stories these days. We publish established and brand new writers alike. If a story really sends us, we'll publish it without concerning ourselves with guidelines. As a general rule, however, we don't publish straight slash/hack horror, vampire fiction, cat stories, writer stories, abuse stories, revenge stories, or stories narrated by young adults or children.

POETRY: We consider all forms and themes suitable for our content and focus. Longer works must justify length by their content. Payment is a flat rate of $10. We purchase 1st North American Serial Rights and sometimes 1st Electronic Rights. All subsidiary rights released upon publication. We respond on most submissions in 4-8 weeks.

True Romance's stories are generally realistic first-person narratives that deal with a variety of issues pertaining to women. As the title of the magazine denotes, they are looking for true stories that deal with romance, relationships, love, sex, beauty, and the female body and mind. They want to read about the issues that you, your friends, and your family have talked, laughed, and cried about!

Features: True Romance has added a few new features to our magazine that will contribute greatly to its essence. Please feel free to contribute to any of these sections:
- Happily Ever After: Do you have a dream-come-true tale and want to share it? Please send a short 200-400 word description of your relationship from start to present and a picture.
- Snippets: a shorter feature of about 1000-3000 words. Everybody has a story to tell, but some stories are shorter than others. Snippets are concise featurettes about anything worth writing about - Share frustrations with friends and family, describe something that has changed your life or made you think differently about something real and immediate. Opinions and commentary are welcome, if balanced by life experience.
- Love Letter: If you are in love with someone and would like to tell the whole world, we would love to publish your letter! The letter can be anonymous if you choose.
- How I Met My Love: Tell us the interesting way you met your love. Keep it under 400 words.
- Talk Back: Regular people sound off on a topic each month. Please send a short response (no more than five sentences) along with a clear picture of your face.

Length: Stories between 3,000 and 8,000 words, although well-developed stories above 8,000 words are never turned away. Also accepts shorter stories for Snippets.

Pays three cents per word for stories and Snippets. Poetry payment is $20 to $50. Love Letters pay $35. How I Met My Love and Happily Ever After pay $50 each.
