If you are making simultaneous submissions to other publishers, please note this in your query letter.

Each manuscript query packet must include the following:
- a cover letter with total word count, brief synopsis, and information about yourself (publishing credits, writing memberships, etc.) Make your cover letter interesting; tell us why we'll love your manuscript. Be sure to let us know what marketing strategy you plan for your book
- First three chapters of your manuscript (in standard manuscript format) UNLESS you are submitting works for the Inspirational/Family line- then send entire manuscript.
- SASE if you wish your materials returned to you

Do not send your full manuscript if we have not requested it.

interested in: Highland Press is looking for outstanding manuscripts of all time genres—with the exception of erotica. We want historicals similar to what many of us grew up with and fell in love with--unlike those being released which are required to leave most of the history out of them. This does NOT mean we want manuscripts with history dumps! Please ensure the history is sprinkled throughout your manuscript and your historical facts are accurate.

While we have predominantly focused on historicals to date, this does not mean we are not willing to consider well written stories of every time period. We’ve just released our first Young Adult book and are currently working on a children’s picture book. We also have a non-fiction reference book we believe every author will want to have.

ANNOUNCING NEW INSPIRATIONAL/FAMILY LINE! Actively searching Inspirational/Sweet themed manuscripts. Think Hallmark Hall of Fame, Janette Oke, Little House on the Prairie, etc. Accepting full manuscripts for adults or young adult lines.

Especially in the case of longer manuscripts, it is a good idea to send a letter of inquiry before submitting the entire manuscript.

Manuscripts should be typed, double-spaced. DO NOT SEND YOUR ONLY COPY OF A MANUSCRIPT -- publishers make every effort to safeguard a manuscript, but they cannot be held responsible in the event of its loss.

If you would like confirmation of the receipt of your submission, include a self-addressed, stamped postcard.

Include a cover letter containing any pertinent information about yourself, your writing, your manuscript, etc.

Be sure that your name and address are on the manuscript itself, as well as on the cover letter. Always include the right-sized, self-addressed, stamped envelope for reply.
