The usual length for a manuscript is between 80,000 and 125,000 words. Ace and Roc do not accept submissions of short stories, non-fiction, children's books, poetry, or artwork.

Mundania Press is ONLY open for unsolicited submissions during the months of March, April, September, and October each year. Accepts manuscript submission via EMAIL only.

At a minimum, books must be 30,000 words in length. At a maximum, no more than 120,000. They strongly prefer books around 80,000 words. Anything under 60,000 words will be released in ebook format only.

At the top of your email cover letter, please include the following information:

Your real name
Your pen name (if applicable)
Your manuscript title
Genre and sub-genres
Approximate number of words
Your snail mail address, phone number, and good, RELIABLE email address

Please keep your cover letters simple. It’s not necessary to give us your life story. If you have some previous publishing credits (with real publishers or magazines, and not AuthorHouse, PublishAmerica, etc), some ideas on how you’d help promote your work, or anything else that is relevant, feel free to make mention of it. But brief is best.

In the body of your email, please include the short book blurb/jacket copy (a paragraph or two about your novel designed to entice readers) and a full synopsis (a one to two page summary of your novel, written in present tense, and including the ending. It MUST include the ending).

Your full manuscript should be attached to the email in RTF format. It should be the ONLY attachment.

Mundania is currently open for unsolicited submissions. This includes new novels, novellas, and short stories, as well as previously published works. We are especially looking for paranormal romance.

The easiest way to submit your idea is to e-mail a query letter to one of the editors. The query letter should be a short description of your project. Try to limit your letter to one page. Many of Quirk's best books were pitched in a single paragraph, and a few were pitched in a single sentence.

You can also mail materials directly to the office. If you would like a reply, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope.

interested in: Quirk Books is always on the lookout for strange and wonderful ideas. They specialize in entertaining nonfiction books that are bolstered by very strong graphic design. No epic fantasy novels. No children’s books.

The first step is to send a query letter with a 1-2 paragraph synopsis of your work with the first chapter of the manuscript IN THE BODY OF AN E-MAIL. 'Book query submission' must be in the subject line.

If they like the synopsis and first chapter, they will request a 'partial'. This is the first three chapters, or approximately 50 pages, of your book. If you send a partial before they request it, it will be rejected and returned.

The first chapter, synopsis, and query must be embedded in the body of the email. All first submissions must include your full name, a pseudonym if used, a query letter, a brief synopsis, subject or genre and be in the body of the email. Email all submissions to Marci G. Baun.
